Three hours later, my face and hair had been thoroughly beaten into submission.
"What do you think?" I turned to the girls, the black floor-length gown I had purchased at the mall draping my figure. They scrunched up their noses as they looked at me and then at each other.
"Honest opinion?" Evie asked hesitantly.
"Obviously."
"You look like you're going to chaperone the prom." She deadpanned, and Lily snickered before my glare shut her up.
"I do not!" I argued, even though in the back of my mind, I agreed. This dress had looked much better on the rack than it did on me now. Lily stared at me expectantly, wearing down my resolve. "Ugh, okay, you're right. This is somebody's mom's dress."
"Good thing we bought two options!" Lily singsonged as she walked to my closet, pulling out the garment bag I had shoved to the very back. Seeing my mouth open to protest, she cut me off before I got the chance.
"Just humor us. If you hate it, I'll get you a dress from my closet." I frowned at her, but when she shook the dress in my face, I reluctantly took it. The faster I tried it on, the faster she'd give me something else to wear once she saw how terrible I looked.
I quickly changed in the bathroom, pulled the dress into place, and turned to look in the floor-length mirror that leaned against one wall. I audibly gasped at my reflection, seeing my face for the first time since we'd started getting ready.
Lily had done a sultry smokey eye on me, my lips painted with a deep red color that I had never thought I could pull off. Evie had proved to be a wizard with a curling iron, my long blonde locks cascading around my face in perfectly tousled waves. A natural flush was in my cheeks, the heat from my earlier dream still ever-present.
The dress itself was a deep forest green, rich and luxurious. The straps hung slightly off the shoulder, a delicate lace floral pattern etched across the bodice. It was also floor length, but with a questionably high slit on one side, and I knew if I made the wrong move, I'd be putting on a show for more than just my dreams tonight. The neckline was deep and dipped down suggestively, and I thanked the stars that I had remembered to grab a push-up bra at the mall. I didn't have much going on up there, but in this dress, it sure looked like I did.
The fabric clung to my curves in all the right places, and looking in the mirror, I looked like a goddess. I couldn't even deny it. This dress was made for me. I wonder what Callan would say about this dress, the intrusive thought escaped me before I could tamp it down. Shaking my head at my clearly hormonal self, I fluffed my hair, ensuring it looked just right. Using a quick spritz of lavender body spray, I left the bathroom and returned to the girls, giving them a sheepish look as I presented myself.
